About Us

A Message from the Executive Director:

As our children grow into adolescence, it is sometimes hard for parents to figure out how they can actively support their son or daughters education.  ACE, as a career education center, sets expectations for your child not unlike the expectations set in a business environment:

For this newsletter, I will focus on preparation.  It is not unusual for some students to loose their motivation during the spring semester just as important tests and competitions begin.  April 22, 23, and 24 are the dates set for 10th grade students to take the High School Assessment Program exams.  Also, any student who is in grade 11 and 12, who have not passed a part of the exam, must repeat the tests.
So, how can you help your child come prepared?  First, be sure your child comes to school daily, on time, unless they have a lawful excuse to stay home.  The English and math teachers at ACE are reviewing and preparing for the test daily.  If you child is not in attendance, they cannot benefit from this preparation program.  Every student enrolled at ACE, and scheduled for the exam, has been given access to a test preparation program that can be accessed from any computer; whether at home, the library or The Boys and Girls Club.  Remind your son or daughter to log into our program and practice.  Also, if your son or daughter does not have homework, please be advised that we expect them to read for thirty minutes each evening and practice summarizing the main points of the reading.  Let them choose the reading material that most interests them – the point is to practice reading.  Finally, encourage your children to go to bed early.  Studies show that most adolescents need eight or nine hours of restful sleep, but many teens get as little as five hours or less.  Remind your child to shut down the electronics and turn off the light at least eight hours before the alarm sounds.
Three simple acts can make a significant difference in your child’s education: turn off the TV and practice math and reading thirty minutes each night, go to bed at a reasonable hour and come to school every day prepared to produce in the classroom.
